If Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream, I can have a dream too, right?
I used to dream about having my own "How To" show on TV. It would cover topics from home renovation, personal style make-overs, properly washing pets and clothing, cooking, what to look for when buying cars, etc. Kind of like Martha Stewart or Oprah on steriods.
I also used to have a dream about being a world-traveler. My ultimate dream was to backpack for three months across Europe for my honeymoon with nothing but what I could fit into my backpack and no definite plans. I also wanted to move to the Middle East for a few years and hit up every continent on the planet; yes, even Antarctica.
I once had a dream of never getting married, never have a family, and always be a career woman in New York City. I was dead-set on becoming a world-renown journalist for The New York Times (I even had my picture taken in front of one of their buildings when I went to the city for my 16th birthday).
Then reality set in and I realized none of those dreams were for me. As cool as it would have been if I could have fulfilled just one of them, those dreams didn't mean anything. In fact, they were kind of selfish. Now I have a dream to help people, no matter who they are or what their stories are. I think that's why I chose to study speech-language pathology; not only do I have a very personal connection and respect for the field, but I can help people improve their quality of life which is very important to me. I can't think of a better way for me to fulfill my dream.
Despite my dreams (and realities) changing, I'm still very happy and very excited to see them fulfilled. What are some of your dreams?
